After a few days of satellite silence we are back in civilization. We are in Missoula, MT this morning, visiting the Adventure Cycling Association headquarters. (These are the fellas that made our maps.) The last couple days have been spent following Clearwater River along route 12. This river is true to its name and is home to salmon and trout. One item on Josh’s bucket list is to watch trout jump up river. However, no matter how hard you stare into that crystal clear water you cannot see any fish. Yesterday our despondence of seeing no fish led to Josh declaring all the riverbed rocks to be fish; surely one of them really was.
Our night in the river valley was spent at a primitive and technically closed (shout out for stealth camping) USFS campground. At this very exclusive campground, we got to pick the cream of the crop of sites. Our tent was tucked away (albeit behind the outhouse) right next to the river. It had a little mini beach which was the perfect spot for an absolutely freezing cold, toe numbing, splash bath. In the end it was refreshing to wash off the grit and slime of the day.
